US Invoice Template
In the United States there is no federal VAT — sales tax is set at the state and local level, and most B2B services are not taxed at all. This template defaults to no tax so you can add a state sales-tax rate only when it actually applies to what you sell.
Bill in US dollars, itemize your services or products, and download a clean PDF to email your client the same day.

What a compliant invoice needs in United States
- Your business name and address, and the client's name and address.
- A unique invoice number and both the issue and due dates.
- Itemized services or products with amounts, plus any applicable state sales tax.
Frequently asked questions
- Do I need to charge sales tax on a US invoice?
- Usually only on taxable goods and certain services, and only in states where you have nexus. Most professional/B2B services are exempt. Add the correct state rate in the tax field when it applies; otherwise leave it at 0.
- Is an EIN required on invoices?
- It is not legally required on the invoice itself, but many businesses include their EIN or business number so clients can process payment and 1099 reporting smoothly.
